Event to explore legacy of St. Clare, early Franciscan women

This open event will showcase esteemed speakers: Sr. Margaret Carney, OSF, STD, who wrote “Light of Assisi: The Story of St. Clare,” and globally recognized Franciscan scholar Jean-Francois Godet-Calogeras.

Sr. Margaret Carney, OSF, is a Franciscan sister and theologian recognized for her leadership in Catholic higher education and Franciscan spirituality. She served as St. Bonaventure University’s 20th president from 2004 to 2016 and now holds the title of president emerita. Sr. Margaret earned degrees from Duquesne University and St. Bonaventure University, and became the first woman to earn a theology doctorate from the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome. She is a respected scholar and frequent speaker on Franciscan topics worldwide.
Jean‑François Godet‑Calogeras, PhD, is a professor emeritus of theology and Franciscan studies at St. Bonaventure University. Educated in classical philology and medieval studies at the Catholic University of Louvain, he specializes in early Franciscan sources, especially the works of Francis and Clare of Assisi. Dr. Godet‑Calogeras is known for his publications, editorial work with Franciscan studies and his roles as lecturer and pilgrimage leader on Franciscan spirituality.
