Br. Augustine (John) Paulik, OFM, 84, passed away on Dec. 18, 2024, at St. Mary Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was formerly of the Byzantine Custody of Our Lady of the Angels and the legacy Assumption Province. He was a professed Franciscan friar for 59 years. Br. Augustine was known for publishing a Ukrainian Catholic liturgy book in 1971 and writing a choral liturgy. He was an accomplished cantor at the Divine Liturgy. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.  

Br. Augustine was born on March 27, 1940, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, to John and Mary (née Dubinsky) Paulik. He attended elementary school in Lynnwood, Pennsylvania, high school in Hanover Township, and went to St. Basil College in Stamford, Connecticut, from 1970 to 1971. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.  

He was received into the Order of Friars Minor on April 19, 1964, at Holy Dormition Monastery in Sybertsville, Pennsylvania, and made simple profession there on Aug. 14, 1965. Br. Augustine professed solemn vows at Holy Protection Monastery in New Canaan, Connecticut, on Aug. 16, 1970.  

From 1967 to 1986, Br. Augustine ministered on the retreat staff and as music coordinator at Holy Protection Monastery. He also served as vicar there from 1982 to 1984. At Holy Dormition Monastery, Br. Augustine served as vicar from 1991 to 1993 and from 1994 to 1996. In addition, he ministered as acting guardian for several months in 1996. He continued to serve there in a ministry of prayer and retirement before moving to Queen of Peace Friary in Burlington, Wisconsin, in 2019.  

Br. Augustine is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by family members, friends and friars of the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe. May God grant him blessed repose and eternal memory.
