Br. Carlos Sarmiento, OFM, 64, passed away Jan. 21 in Lima, Peru, after a long illness.  

A native of Jumbe, Peru, Br. Carlos entered the Franciscan Order on Feb. 17, 1995. He made temporary profession on Feb. 11, 1996; solemn profession on March 19, 1999; and was ordained to the priesthood on Nov. 13, 1999.  

Br. Carlos’ assignments over the years included serving in formation at Holy Name College in Silver Spring, Maryland; at Most Holy Name Parish, San Borja, Lima; and as parochial vicar and formator at Parroquia Santa Ana, Lima.  

Br. Carlos is survived by family members, friends and friars of the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe. His wake will be held in Santa Ana Parish in Villa Maria del Triunfo just outside of Lima. He will be buried in Santa Rosa Cemetery in Chorillos.
